the keeper of the tides
I chose to edit Cancer the way I did to highlight both the mythology and astrological essence of the sign. In Greek myth, the giant crab Karkinos tried to aid Hercules against the Hydra, and though it was crushed, Hera honored its effort by placing it in the sky as the constellation Cancer. This story reflects the protective, resilient nature of the sign, which I wanted to bring to life in this piece.
She is depicted praying to show introspection, emotional depth, and a connection to something greater—qualities that define Cancer. The crab legs emerging behind her intertwine with the title Cancer, emphasizing her protective instincts and her ability to balance the emotional and material realms. Water surrounds her to reflect her intuitive, nurturing energy, and the Moon behind her symbolizes reflection, care, and the cyclical rhythms that guide the sign.
Every choice—the pose, the crab elements, the water, and the Moon—was intentional, designed to capture the harmony of strength, vulnerability, and deep emotional insight that defines Cancer.
